Nigerian Dwarf Information
Nigerian Dwarf goats are the perfect addition to any farm or family. Their small size allows them to be kept in smaller areas and they do not need as much food as larger goat breeds. These goats can be used to produce milk, for 4-H animals, and are entertaining to watch as they jump and play. In addition, they are a popular choice with children and make great pets due to their small size. Nigerian Dwarf goats are used in shows nationally as the most popular shown dairy goat breed. These goats can be successfully raised in many different climates as long as their shelter is clean, ventilated, and free of drafts. Nigerian Dwarf goats are herd animals and it is best to have more than one goat. Manure can be used as compost for gardens and it is almost odorless. So whether you are looking for a 4-H project, pet, milk, or starting/expanding a breeding program, these animals will fit the bill. No matter the purpose, you will fall in love with them and end up with a pet.

Perfect for 4H
The smaller size of these goats make them ideal for children interested in 4H. These goats have wonderful personalities, easy for smaller children to handle, and are fun to watch as they jump and play. These goats can be taught to walk on a short leash as shown in the picture and follow you around when you are in their enclosure. Nigerian Dwarf goat size, personality, and playful attitudes make them ideal for all levels of 4-H members from a first year member to a ten year member.

Pets We have had Nigerian Dwarf goats for five years and our children still love them. They each have their own unique personality. We enjoy watching them jump on large wooden spools and they are great at eating unwanted weeds in their pasture. They may be called dwarf but the amount of love you will have for them is massive.

Goat Care Instructions
Whether this is your first goat or you are seasoned goat owners, it is important to meet their care needs. First it is important that these goats have abundant access to hay which will consist of most of their diet. Goat feed pellets are also an important part of their diet. Goats also need their hooves trimmed periodically to prevent issues when they are walking. Do not be overwhelmed by this as hoof trimming is not too difficult when done routinely. We are more than happy to assist you with learning about how to care for your new goat. Please visit our contact page with any questions. We will also provide you with an informational sheet when you pick up your goat that will help get you started. |
